Detailed Overview
Aurum Eye was my third Game Jam Game made in October 2021. For this game, as a group, we wanted to do something vastly different from previous Game Jams. We wanted a challenge. Since the theme was "a Classic Reimagined", we decided to tackle split-screen multiplayer.
We used Input manager so a player can use Keyboard and Mouse, Controllers, Arduinos, or any kind of controller the player could imagine. We made the game assets in blenders and Maya and colored them using Probuilder.
Aurum Eye, at the end of the day, is just for pure enjoyment and is meant for the player and their friends to be taken back to the days of split-screen to "1V1" each other once more.
My role in Aurum Eye
While we all helped each other with anything we needed, I want specifically in charge of creating the characters, story, and doing the voiceover work for the characters. After multiple ideas were thrown around, we settled on ordinary citizens being chosen from a lottery. Their prize was getting to test a military training sim. From there I created four characters since the game was going to be split-screen.
These characters ended up being a little girl character, a 420 enthusiast, an UWU catboy streamer, and, of course, a Faze clan try hard. These characters' personalities and identities were created using inspiration from Team Fortress 2. We didn't want the game to be taken too seriously and the characters reflect that. I also wanted to play with funny stereotypes of modern gamers.
Unfortunately, since Game Jams are only 48 hours, we couldn't include everything. I wanted each character to have the exact same base avatar, but with unique accessories. The little girl's avatar would be obnoxiously pink, the 420 enthusiast would have a legalize cannabis shirt with shades being optional. The catboy streamer would have cat ears and big anime eyes, and the Faze try hard would have had camouflage, but it would be really bad camo (winter camo in a desert or city setting so they don't have an advantage).
