Detailed Overview
Mind Field is a game that I created with a group of friends in a Game Jam in April 2021 using Unity. This game was made from scratch in Unity and required the use of various skills, such as Audio Design, Level Design, Art, Procedural Generation, and Narrative Direction. The narrative takes the player through an emotional story that compliments the beautiful art style and assets.
Awoken in a mysterious jail cell. is it meant to keep others out, or you in? You must escape by visiting different dream worlds. These dream worlds contain items and clues you can add to your inventory to progress through the game. After finding all the items, a path of escape will be unlocked. Make sure to pay attention to your surroundings because not everything is as it seems. Do you have what it takes to uncover the story of the Mind Field?
As with every Game Jam, not everything was able to be added in due to time constraints (48-hour time limit). A couple of fun ideas I had to make the narrative a bit more interesting was to start the player out in a world that is black and white and have the color slowly return as they pick up items. This was to show how eventually the player's spouse would be able to break through and the player would be able to hear them since they're starting to gather the pieces of themselves. Ultimately, my goal was for the player to realize they were in a terrible car accident and some of these environments, like the fields, were representations of the afterlife.
For the ending of the game, I wanted to include a choice of instead of returning to their spouse the main character could actually choose to go back to the fields instead. This time, however, the fields would be filled with roaming people to show how the main character let go and joined all the others who did the same. Unfortunately, we didn't have the time to add this choice in.
All the voice lines I wrote for the game are located below and unfortunately, not all of them were able to be used. The main character James was also voiced by me. It was my first step into voice acting and it was a really fun experience!
